Jimmi Hatton Kolpek (R151) Named 2019 Paul Parker Award Recipient

Jimmi Hatton Kolpek, PharmD (R151), faculty at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and President-elect of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), has been named the 2019 recipient of the Paul F. Parker Award. She will receive the award at the 2019 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Graduate Alumni Return to Campus

Graduate program alumni, Dr. Melissa Rondeau, Dr. Joanna Koziara, Dr. Kamalika Mukherjee, and Dr. David Horton recently returned to campus to meet with current graduate students and discuss career options. It is always a welcome privilege to hear what our students have been up to since they graduated from our program. Melissa Rondeau (’11) is currently Vice-President of Clinical Services at Symbiotix in Lexington. Her talk covered her career path and how she transitioned into medical writing.

Pharmacy Alumni Celebrated for Their Commitment to Elevating Care & Scientific Inquiry

This past April, two accomplished University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy alumni became the latest inductees in the College’s Hall of Distinguished Alumni for 2018-2019. They were recognized for their professional achievements at 21c Hotel in downtown Lexington on Thursday, April 25, 2019.

Looking Back: Graduate Alumnus Recounts the Early Days of The Program

Like other pharmacy schools, the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy was traditionally focused on educating pharmacists for pharmacy practice. However, when Dean Earl Sloan retired in 1967, the College brought in Dr. Joseph Swintosky to serve as Dean and to develop new roles for pharmacists. Swintosky began the push for an all-PharmD Program and a world-class Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Swintosky hired several new faculty members to help jumpstart the new graduate program, including Dr. James Doluisio and Dr.

Celebrated Faculty Member Pat DeLuca Passes Away

On May 22, 2019, Dr. Patrick DeLuca passed away, surrounded by family. He moved to Lexington in 1970, joining the faculty at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy where he held Administrative positions and served as an Associate Dean. His research work and teachings helped him to secure numerous patents. He leaves an incredible legacy through his impact on both patients and students, helping the College’s faculty to national prominence. In addition, DeLuca’s efforts helped secure support for the College to build two new instructional and research facilities.

College Strengthens Efforts to Address Alumni Needs

The UK College of Pharmacy recently hired Rosa Mejia-Cruz and Kacie Miller in an effort to create a more robust focus on student and alumni development and success. In addition, Nicole Keenan has been promoted to the role of Director of Student Success and Career Development.  Keenan will work with students to help identify, prepare for, and procure various professional opportunities and career placements, including but not limited to residency training, fellowships, and graduate programs. She will also oversee initiatives involving student health and well-being. 

Distinguished Alumnus John Piecoro Passes Away

On April 3, 2019, Dr. John Piecoro, PharmD ended his battle with cancer. Piecoro was a pioneer in pediatric pharmacy and was associated with the University of Kentucky (UK) pharmacy program for over 35 years. He started clinical pharmacy services in pediatrics here at UK. The success of the UK pediatric pharmacy program and the program, in general, was advanced by his early efforts. He served as Associate Director of Pharmacy for over 10 years and also held a faculty appointment in the UK College of Pharmacy.

Celebrating the Life of Patricia Mullins (R1)

An esteemed member of our pharmacy family passed away this week. Patricia Moynahan Mullins, 74, was the very first graduate of the UK Pharmacy Residency Program and a true leader in the profession.

Joey Mattingly Named Recipient of Prescott Pharmacy Leadership Award

Alumnus Joey Mattingly, PharmD, MBA, Assistant Professor, Pharmacy Practice and Science, University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, will be honored with the 2019 Prescott Pharmacy Leadership Award during the Annual Meeting of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) in Seattle, WA, on Saturday evening, March 23, 2019, when he will give a scholarly address.
