Independent Pharmacy Practice Advancement Fellowship American Pharmacy Cooperative, Inc. Foundation-UK College of Pharmacy
About the Program
This year-long fellowship offers continuous learning and growth opportunities across various pharmacy practice areas. Through strong mentorship and diverse experiences, the fellow will develop the skills necessary to become an innovative community pharmacy practitioner. By the end of the Independent Pharmacy Practice Advancement Fellowship, the fellow will be ready to implement and evaluate advanced pharmacy services and lead advocacy efforts that broaden the pharmacist’s role in patient care.
The fellowship is offered through a unique partnership between the UK College of Pharmacy (UKCOP) Center for the Advancement of Pharmacy Practice (CAPP), a research center within the UKCOP dedicated to advancing pharmacy practice, and the American Pharmacy Cooperative, Inc Foundation for Education and Research (APCIF), a not-for-profit that works to provide training and resources to help independent pharmacies implement successful pharmacy care services and research programs, and Poole's Pharmacy Care located in Central Kentucky, where patient care activities and firsthand business operations/management training will occur. (Logistical and housing support will be available to interested parties.)
Under the careful guidance of employees from all three organizations, the fellow will experience a wide array of activities designed to meet the outcomes of the program. Headquartered at Poole's Pharmacy Care the fellow will be heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of pharmacy management/ownership, advanced patient care services, and practice-based research. Throughout the year the fellow will also work with members of the APCI Foundation to aid in practice advancement, implementation of novel services, and advocacy at both the state and federal level. College of Pharmacy faculty members will help coordinate experiences, contribute to implementation learning, and assist in research analysis and publication of results.
Upon completing the program, the fellow will be able to lead community pharmacy-based patient care practice initiatives. Throughout the year, the fellow will become efficient at advocating and collaborating with various stakeholders to bring about change in pharmacy practice. Through real-world experiences at their practice site in combination with opportunities at APCI Foundation and UKCOP, the fellow will gain the ability to function successfully as a leader in pharmacy dedicated to continuous professional development and practice advancement.
