What if you could turn your passion for science into a career that changes lives?

Imagine a path where you don’t just study molecules and equations—you use them to discover new medicines, develop life-saving therapies, and innovate the future of healthcare. Welcome to the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) program at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy.

The BSPS is more than a pre-pharmacy track. It is a dynamic, interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students for a variety of professional pathways. Whether you dream of working in pharmaceutical research, clinical trial management, health systems analytics, or advancing to medical, dental, veterinary, or pharmacy school, this degree equips you with the coursework and skills to succeed. At UKCOP, you’ll gain a strong foundation in the basic sciences—chemistry, biology, and physiology—and explore specialized topics in drug development, medicinal chemistry, and health outcomes research.

Who is the BSPS Program For?

  • Are you passionate about science but unsure where it can take you?
  • Do you want to explore healthcare careers beyond patient care?
  • Are you motivated to solve real-world challenges in medicine and health systems?

If you answered YES, the BSPS program is your perfect starting point.

What Will I Learn?

The BSPS curriculum integrates foundational science with applied pharmaceutical topics to prepare you for versatile careers. You’ll study:

  • Medicinal Chemistry: Discover how drugs are designed and synthesized to fight disease.
  • Pharmacology and Toxicology: Learn how drugs interact with the human body and assess their safety.
  • Pharmaceutical Development: Understand the process of bringing new therapies from the lab to patients.
  • Health Systems Analytics: Analyze outcomes and the impact of pharmaceutical products within healthcare systems.

Students will complete guided electives and experiential learning through internships, research, or education abroad opportunities.

Why Choose the BSPS?

Where can a BSPS degree take you? Anywhere science meets healthcare. Graduates of this program are ready to pursue careers such as:

  • Research Science Technicians in pharmaceutical or biotechnology labs
  • Clinical Trial Coordinators for cutting-edge therapies
  • Health Outcomes Analysts in healthcare systems or government agencies
  • Graduates are also fully prepared to pursue advanced degrees, including PharmD, MD, DDS, DVM, or graduate research programs (MS/PhD). This degree meets the admission requirements for many professional health programs.

How does the BSPS compare to traditional science degrees?

While traditional chemistry and biology degrees offer broad scientific foundations, the BSPS curriculum is laser-focused on applying science directly to human health. You will develop a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical sciences, bridging the gap between scientific discovery and real-world healthcare impact. With this degree, you’ll stand out in the job market and applications for advanced education.

Your Future Starts Here

The pharmaceutical sciences play a critical role in today’s world—from combating diseases to improving public health. At UKCOP, you’ll be part of one of the nation’s top ten pharmacy schools, renowned for its:

  • World-Class Research Facilities: The nation's largest and most advanced pharmacy education facilities.
  • Expert Faculty: Dedicated mentors invested in your success.
  • Connections to Industry Leaders: A network that opens doors to exciting opportunities.

By choosing the BSPS program, you’re earning more than a degree—you’re preparing to lead, innovate, and make an impact in a growing and essential field.
