The University of Kentucky (UK) Alumni Association, Fayette County Cooperative Extension Services, and UK Human Resources Career Development are pleased to announce the winter/spring 2020 Central Kentucky Job Club schedule.

The purpose of Job Club is to provide a positive environment for motivated job seekers to meet, connect, share and learn. The free group is open to the public and meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, from 9:00–10:15 a.m. at the Fayette County Cooperative Extension office, 1140 Harry Sykes Way (formerly Red Mile Place), Lexington, KY. Business attire is encouraged. Convenient, free parking is available. Job Club is for you if you are a motivated professional and currently out of work, underemployed or looking to make a career transition. In addition, recruiters and employers are always welcome and introduced to Job Club attendees.

January 14: Job Search Q&A Session

Now is a great time to step up your job search. Join our nationally certified career counselors as they share tips for the job search and answer your burning questions. Bring your job search-related questions for this session.  

January 28: Are Job Offers Negotiable? How Much Are You Leaving on the Table? 

Presented by John Kirn, MBA, Negotiation Professor, UK Gatton College of Business & Economics 

If you do not negotiate job offers, over the course of your lifetime you could be leaving 1000’s of dollars on the table. Attend this session to learn how to get the most value out of your expertise.  

February 11: Lifelong Learning 2020 

Presented by Bob Callen, Assistant Manager, Lexington Public Library 

Remember the days when we sat in classrooms to learn a topic? Or had to travel to a special place to see a great speaker? It's 2020, and all we need now an internet connection and a device to view content that helps us build our skill sets on topics from writing well to mastering software. Soft skills like conflict resolution and customer service are often just a click away. We’ll cover a few of these sites with an emphasis on free resources you can use to build your portfolio. 

February 25: Rad Resumes: Be Seen, Get the Interview and Rock Your Skills! 

Presented by Amanda Huddleston, Executive Vice President, People Plus, Inc. 

Wonder why you send resume after resume and never get a call? Ever wonder if it might just be your resume? With over 15+ years of reviewing resumes and candidates, Amanda will share tips on what to do, and what not to do, to take your resume from sad-to-rad! Join us as we have some fun and discuss tips and tricks to help set your resume apart from the rest of the job search pack. 

March 10: LinkedIn, “WIIFM” What’s in It for Me? 

Presented by Rodney Worrix, Technical Recruiter, TEKSystems  

During this presentation, we will discuss the benefits of an updated LinkedIn Profile and how to use LinkedIn to its fullest extent. We will discuss how to build a robust profile that stands out, fostering meaningful connections and industry news and trends.

March 24: Presenting Your Best Self: Interviewing with Confidence 

Presented by Zach Fuqua, Cooperative Education Program Director, UK College of Engineering 

Do you get nervous about interviews? Do you feel you don't always present yourself in the way you wanted? Let's talk about that in this interactive session where will discuss tips and strategies to develop confidence and make sure you are able to present your best self.

April 14: How to Play the Job Search Game 

Presented by Everett Bracken, CEO, VOLO Careers International, Inc. 

Did you know that external executive recruiters rarely post confidential and executive-banded recruiting assignments? Join us to learn how to play the job search game. Interview strategy will also be discussed. 

April 28: Job Search Tips & Strategies from a Panel of Regional Recruiters and HR Professionals 

This Job Club meeting will feature a panel of local HR professionals and recruiters. You will learn job search tips and strategies directly from those involved in the recruiting and hiring process. This is an opportunity to get your job search, application, and hiring questions answered, so come prepared with questions for the panel. 

May 12: Working for State Government: Insights into the Job Application Process 

Presented by the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet

May 26: Panel of Job Club Success Stories 

Back by popular demand, this annual program will be sure to inspire. Hear from former Job Club attendees on how they made successful job or career transitions, landed interviews and kept their spirits up during their search.  

We wish to remember and honor those who inhabited this Commonwealth before the arrival of the Europeans. Briefly occupying these lands were the Osage, Wyndott tribe, and Miami peoples. The Adena and Hopewell peoples, who are recognized by the naming of the time period in which they resided here, were here more permanently. Some of their mounds remain in the Lexington area, including at UK’s Adena Park.

In more recent years, the Cherokee occupied southeast Kentucky, the Yuchi southwest Kentucky, the Chickasaw extreme western Kentucky and the Shawnee central Kentucky including what is now the city of Lexington. The Shawnee left when colonization pushed through the Appalachian Mountains. Lower Shawnee Town ceremonial grounds are still visible in Greenup County.

We honor the first inhabitants who were here, respect their culture, and acknowledge the presence of their descendants who are here today in all walks of life including fellow pharmacists and healthcare professionals.
