College of Pharmacy Hosting Symposium on Substance Use Disorder Therapeutics

The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy will host its tenth annual Therapeutics, Outcomes, Discovery & Delivery (TODD) Symposium from 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, in room 124 of the Lee T. Todd, Jr. Building. The TODD Symposium will discuss the development of substance use disorder therapeutics from prevention to cure. The symposium will also highlight the discoveries of therapeutics and diagnostics to address the unmet clinical need for patients suffering from substance use disorder within the Commonwealth and beyond.

Acute Influenza and Acute Streptococcal Pharyngitis Protocol Training

The UK College of Pharmacy’s Center for Advancement of Pharmacy Practice (CAPP) is excited to offer CE training courses for Acute Influenza and Acute Streptococcal Pharyngitis point-of-care testing pursuant to Kentucky Board of Pharmacy authorized protocols. These trainings include both a home-study component and an in-person skills workshop. We are offering combined live Strep AND Flu training workshops in August. To participate in the combined trainings, you must complete the registrations for both.

Pharmacists’ Authority to Deliver Protocol-Driven Care Set to Impact Patient and Public Health Across Kentucky

The culmination of almost two years of collaborative effort was achieved this past December when the Health & Welfare & Family Services Interim Joint Committee of the Kentucky Legislature approved regulation 201 KAR 2:380, board authorized protocols.

Anne Policastri Named New Director, ASHP Membership and Affiliate Relations Division

Anne Policastri, Pharm.D., M.B.A., FASHP, FKSHP, will join ASHP as the new Director, Membership and Affiliate Relations Division within the Office of Member Relations. The position will lead efforts to oversee relationships with state affiliates, among others, and to assist in membership growth and development.

Brooke Hudspeth Helps Secure $7.5 Million Grant from CDC

UK College of Pharmacy alumnus Dr. Brooke Hudspeth was integral in the grant application on behalf of The Kroger Company for the expansion of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). Kroger Pharmacy began providing diabetes prevention services at their community pharmacy residency site in Lexington, KY in 2015 and quickly expanded to their Louisville residency site and other locations throughout the state.

Pharmacist Prescribing & Emergency Department Pharmacists

On July 10, the UK College of Pharmacy will welcome Mrs. Sandra Martin from the University of Manchester School of Pharmacy. Her talk will focus on pharmacy in the United Kingdom as she discusses the Emergency Department (ED) and Independent Prescriber Programs at Manchester University. Martin worked as a hospital pharmacist for 27 years in various specialist roles, including Care of the Elderly, Intensive Care, Acute Medicine and as a specialist Antimicrobial Pharmacist.
