Gilbert J. Burckart, a UK College of Pharmacy alumnus and R#22 in the UK HealthCare Pharmacy Residency program, has been named the 2016 recipient of the Paul F. Parker Award. Dr. Burckart will receive his honor at the 2016 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The UK College of Pharmacy Research Publication Highlight for September, 2016 was published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology and is titled “Microsomal Prostaglandin E Synthase-1 Expression by Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells Attenuates the Differentiated Phenotype”. The project was conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Charles Loftin and features the dissertation research of Dr. Oreoluwa Adedoyin, a recent graduate of the Pharmaceutical Sciences PhD program in the College of Pharmacy.
The UK College of Pharmacy Research Publication Highlight for July, 2016 is to be published in the Journal of Cystic Fibrosis and is titled “Optimizing beta-lactam pharmacodynamics against Pseudomonas aeruginosa in adult cystic fibrosis patients”.
The College of Pharmacy Monthly Research Publication Highlight features a novel approach in the development of new antibiotics directed against the bacterium that causes tuberculosis (TB). The UK College of Pharmacy Research Publication Highlight for June, 2016 was published in Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry and is titled “A biocatalytic approach to capuramycin analogues by exploiting a substrate permissive N-transacylase CapW”.
The designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA) means that an individual met the requirements of the Research Administrators Certification Council and demonstrated a level of knowledge necessary for a person to be a professional research or sponsored programs administrator. The 4-hour examination is the professional standard and covers a range of topics including proposal development, legal requirements, and financial management. Alla is a valued member of the Research Office and has served as the College Grants Officer for the past 3 years.
It is our pleasure to announce that Kip Guy has been named Dean of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. Kip joins us from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, where he currently serves as chairperson of the Department of Chemical Biology and Therapeutics. We anticipate Kip will assume his new role on October 1, 2016.
