LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 7, 2025) — A special memorial run/walk event has been organized to celebrate the life and legacy of Mark Huffmyer, Pharm.D., a cherished pharmacist and colleague at UK HealthCare Pharmacy Services and the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (UKCOP).

The Swift Sprint 5K Run/Walk will take place on Sunday, May 4, at 3 p.m. at Coldstream Park/Legacy Trail in Lexington. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Dr. Mark Huffmyer Memorial Travel Award Fund, supporting pharmacy students in their pursuit of global learning experiences. Huffmyer was an avid runner with a deep love for the sport, finding joy in every mile and embodying the dedication, perseverance, and passion that running inspires.

Runners, walkers, dogs on fixed-length leashes and strollers are all welcome to participate in the event, which seeks to celebrate Huffmyer's life and legacy.

Huffmyer’s career in pharmacy was marked by his deep passion and genuine care for others. After earning his Pharm.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 2014, he began a residency at the American Pharmacy Services Corporation (APSC). His expertise quickly became evident at the Gill Heart and Vascular Anticoagulation Clinic, where he excelled in managing complex therapies and improving patient outcomes.

Huffmyer later joined UK Specialty Pharmacy and Infusion Services, focusing on neurology, psychiatry and substance use disorders. He was also a pioneer in aging and dementia care, earning the respect and admiration of both colleagues and patients for his clinical insights and compassionate approach. His dedication to mentoring students, guiding future pharmacists and tackling challenging cases left a lasting legacy of excellence and innovation.

To honor his legacy, UKCOP established the Dr. Mark Huffmyer Memorial Travel Award. The scholarship fund provides financial support to students participating in exchange programs, Shoulder to Shoulder brigades or international rotations during their fourth year of pharmacy school.
