What is APPKC?

APPKC serves as a forum for individuals from across all practice areas to come together and collaborate on and develop solutions to issues impacting pharmacy practice. The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (UKCOP) Center for the Advancement of Pharmacy Practice (CAPP) serves as the administrative body, while a Steering Committee of pharmacy leaders directs efforts from some of the state's leading pharmacy organizations, including:

  • American Pharmacy Cooperative, Inc. (APCI)
  • CPESN Kentucky
  • Kentucky Independent Pharmacist Alliance (KIPA)
  • Kentucky Pharmacists Association (KPhA)
  • Kentucky Society of Health-System Pharmacists (KSHP)
  • Sullivan College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences (SUCOPHS)
  • University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (UKCOP)

Our Mission: Through effective collaboration, APPKC will be a driving force for advancing the profession of pharmacy in Kentucky and the nation.

History of APPKC

Officially established in July 2015 as a result of a series of summits at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, APPKC has a long history of impacting practice in Kentucky including:

  • Helping to pass KY RS 15 SB 192 to increase the availability of naloxone
  • Providing statewide naloxone training events to pharmacists and students
  • Helping to pass KY RS 16 HB 527, allowing for board-authorized protocols
  • Helping to pass KY RS 17 SB 101, allowing pharmacists to administer immunizations down to age 9
  • Helping to promulgate 201 KAR 2:380 to allow for board-authorized protocols to be utilized
  • Developing training and resources for the implementation of board-authorized protocols
  • Helping to pass KY RS 21 HB 48, ensuring payment for pharmacist services by commercial payers
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across Kentucky to help pharmacists implement medical billing for their services
