Pharmacy Student Group Wins National Collegiate Chapter Award

This summer, the student chapter of Kappa Psi at the UK College of Pharmacy was the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Frank H. Eby Award. This annual award recognizes the collegiate chapter with exceptional academic performance. According to the national organization, the award is given to the chapter with “the highest percentage of eligible members who earn Scholarship Honors Certificates based on Chapter membership and their school’s grading system as determined by calculation criteria set forth by the Chapter Awards Committee and approved by the Executive Committee.”

Henson Awarded 2019 American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship

David Henson has been awarded a 2019 American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship for his project entitled: Modulation of antibodies targeting apolipoprotein A-I to reduce atherosclerosis in a mouse model. The award is for $26,844 each year for two years.

Pharmacy Students Win Bid for Regional Conference

The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy chapter of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) recently won the bid to host the 2020 Regions III, IV, and V Annual Conference in Kentucky. The local student chapter hopes to welcome over 400 attendees, representing 29 states to Lexington, Ky. The conference will be held at the UK College of Pharmacy and the Hilton hotel in downtown Lexington.

Graduate Alumni Return to Campus

Graduate program alumni, Dr. Melissa Rondeau, Dr. Joanna Koziara, Dr. Kamalika Mukherjee, and Dr. David Horton recently returned to campus to meet with current graduate students and discuss career options. It is always a welcome privilege to hear what our students have been up to since they graduated from our program. Melissa Rondeau (’11) is currently Vice-President of Clinical Services at Symbiotix in Lexington. Her talk covered her career path and how she transitioned into medical writing.

Flu & Strep Protocol Training for KY Pharmacists

The UK College of Pharmacy’s Center for Advancement of Pharmacy Practice (CAPP) is excited to offer CE training courses for Acute Influenza and Acute Streptococcal Pharyngitis point-of-care testing pursuant to Kentucky Board of Pharmacy authorized protocols. This training includes both a home-study component and a live skills workshop. To participate in the combined flu and strep training, you must complete the registrations for both. 

UKCOP One of First Pharmacy Schools in the U.S. to Recognize Graduate Students at White Coat Ceremony

The time-honored tradition of the White Coat Ceremony has served as an opportunity for members of the pharmacy community to welcome students into the profession. Every fall, the incoming class of pharmacy students at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy is presented with a white coat to symbolize the beginning of their professional education.

College of Pharmacy Hosting Symposium on Substance Use Disorder Therapeutics

The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy will host its tenth annual Therapeutics, Outcomes, Discovery & Delivery (TODD) Symposium from 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, in room 124 of the Lee T. Todd, Jr. Building. The TODD Symposium will discuss the development of substance use disorder therapeutics from prevention to cure. The symposium will also highlight the discoveries of therapeutics and diagnostics to address the unmet clinical need for patients suffering from substance use disorder within the Commonwealth and beyond.

Homecoming 2019

Tailgate Bash The annual UKCOP Homecoming Tailgate Bash is set for October 12, 2019. The tailgate will begin 2 hours before kick-off at the corner of Nicholasville and Farm Road. Acute Influenza and Acute Streptococcal Pharyngitis Protocol Training

The UK College of Pharmacy’s Center for Advancement of Pharmacy Practice (CAPP) is excited to offer CE training courses for Acute Influenza and Acute Streptococcal Pharyngitis point-of-care testing pursuant to Kentucky Board of Pharmacy authorized protocols. These trainings include both a home-study component and an in-person skills workshop. We are offering combined live Strep AND Flu training workshops in August. To participate in the combined trainings, you must complete the registrations for both.

Pharmacy Alumni Celebrated for Their Commitment to Elevating Care & Scientific Inquiry

This past April, two accomplished University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy alumni became the latest inductees in the College’s Hall of Distinguished Alumni for 2018-2019. They were recognized for their professional achievements at 21c Hotel in downtown Lexington on Thursday, April 25, 2019.
