The Wonders of Pharmacy was first created and implemented by Professor Olufunmilola Abraham at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) School of Pharmacy on Saturday March 2, 2024 from 11am-4pm at the Rennebohm Hall, Madison, Wisconsin. The Wonders of Pharmacy at the UW–Madison School of Pharmacy was an in-person, interactive event designed specifically for high school students and their families interested in exploring the world of pharmacy and understanding medication use. It was a fun half-day event filled with exciting stations, games, and prizes, plus a sneak peek to behind the scenes with PharmD students and practicing pharmacists.
The program was led by PharmD students and members of the CRoME Lab for an interdisciplinary approach that aimed to emphasize why people are drawn to the field of pharmacy. There were over 30 stations with differing areas of focus and reflection, including some with alumni and practicing pharmacists for the benefit of those attending.
“Young people need deeper reasons, more meaningful reasons to want to be pharmacists,” says Professor Olufunmilola Abraham, who leads the CRoME Lab. “They want to understand that they can make a difference.” The Wonders of Pharmacy was inspired by the Wonders of Physics outreach program at UW-Madison which has been around for over 40 years.
