Pharmacy Residency Awards

Several awards are given throughout the year with several saved for end of the year graduation celebration. 

Extra Mile Award

This award is presented to the resident who has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty for the residents. This person demonstrates exceptional dedication and effort in one’s role, makes a positive impact on the residency program/residents, and motivates the residents to strive for excellence. This person often helps solve problems and offers solutions to challenging topics or situations. This resident is recognized for one’s active involvement in the residency program and support beyond what is typically expected.

Impact Award

This award is presented to the resident who has worked within the residency to demonstrate leadership in the profession of pharmacy, develop as a progressive practitioner and leader at national and international levels, demonstrate excellence in the aspects of performance embodied by this residency program (accomplishment, impact, creativity, and commitment), and has been deemed by his/her peers as the individual most likely to have the greatest impact on professional pharmacy practice

Resident of the Year

This award is presented to the resident who consistently demonstrates the highest level of commitment and excellence in all aspects of the residency program. This resident has demonstrated exceptional dedication and service to the residency program and residents. He/she shows genuine care amongst patients, co-residents, and preceptors. This resident is capable of adapting to new challenges, evolving medical practice, and changing circumstances within their field.

Preceptor of the Year

This award is presented to the preceptor who has demonstrated continued interaction and involvement with the residency and freely serves as an educator, mentor and advisor to all residents. This person emphasizes patient-centered care, while ensuring the well-being and safety of residents.

We wish to remember and honor those who inhabited this Commonwealth before the arrival of the Europeans. Briefly occupying these lands were the Osage, Wyndott tribe, and Miami peoples. The Adena and Hopewell peoples, who are recognized by the naming of the time period in which they resided here, were here more permanently. Some of their mounds remain in the Lexington area, including at UK’s Adena Park.

In more recent years, the Cherokee occupied southeast Kentucky, the Yuchi southwest Kentucky, the Chickasaw extreme western Kentucky and the Shawnee central Kentucky including what is now the city of Lexington. The Shawnee left when colonization pushed through the Appalachian Mountains. Lower Shawnee Town ceremonial grounds are still visible in Greenup County.

We honor the first inhabitants who were here, respect their culture, and acknowledge the presence of their descendants who are here today in all walks of life including fellow pharmacists and healthcare professionals.
