University of Kentucky Innovators Win $50K DataWorks! Challenge Prize

A collaborative team from the University of Kentucky’s Institute for Biomedical Informatics and Institute for Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy, comprising Daniel Harris, Ph.D., Chris Delcher, Ph.D., and Nick Anthony, has been awarded a $50,000 prize in the 2023 DataWorks! Challenge.

Romanelli Receives Robert K. Chalmers Distinguished Pharmacy Educator Award

Rivera Named 2023 Paul Parker Award Recipient

LEXINGTON, Ky. (November 9, 2023) — José O. Rivera, PharmD, R77, current and founding dean of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) School of Pharmacy, has been named as the recipient of the 2023 Paul F. Parker Award. This distinguished recognition will be conferred at the upcoming American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear meeting in Anaheim, California.

Four UKCOP Students Receive Awards from the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education

College of Pharmacy Welcomes Stallworth as Postdoctoral Academic Fellow

The College of Pharmacy is pleased to announce the appointment of Sara Stallworth, PharmD, as a postdoctoral academic fellow. In 2022, the College reestablished the academic fellow position, and Stallworth will be the second individual to hold this role. Stallworth will receive comprehensive training in teaching, scholarship, service, and pharmacy practice to further develop her academic career.

After an exceptional 43-year career as a dedicated educator, esteemed researcher, and visionary administrator, the College announces McNamara’s retirement. He leaves invaluable contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences and a permanent mark on the academic community. 

College of Pharmacy Celebrates Faculty Promotions

The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy announced the promotion of four exceptional junior faculty members: Eric Johnson, PharmD; Hannah Johnson, PharmD; Vincent Venditto, Ph.D.; and Craig Beavers, PharmD. These promotions, which took effect on July 1, 2023, have been approved by the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees in recognition of their unwavering dedication, expertise, and outstanding contributions to their respective fields.

Pharmaceutical Sciences Faculty Jim Pauly Retires After 27 Years of Service

After a distinguished career spanning several decades, Jim Pauly, Ph.D., a professor at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (UKCOP) and an associate member of the UK Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center (SCoBIRC), has announced his retirement. Pauly will be stepping down from his role at the end of July 2023.

We wish to remember and honor those who inhabited this Commonwealth before the arrival of the Europeans. Briefly occupying these lands were the Osage, Wyndott tribe, and Miami peoples. The Adena and Hopewell peoples, who are recognized by the naming of the time period in which they resided here, were here more permanently. Some of their mounds remain in the Lexington area, including at UK’s Adena Park.

In more recent years, the Cherokee occupied southeast Kentucky, the Yuchi southwest Kentucky, the Chickasaw extreme western Kentucky and the Shawnee central Kentucky including what is now the city of Lexington. The Shawnee left when colonization pushed through the Appalachian Mountains. Lower Shawnee Town ceremonial grounds are still visible in Greenup County.

We honor the first inhabitants who were here, respect their culture, and acknowledge the presence of their descendants who are here today in all walks of life including fellow pharmacists and healthcare professionals.
